Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Information
A symphony orchestra based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is known as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. The Allen-Bradley Hall in the Bradley Symphony Center is the principal venue for the orchestra's performances. The Florentine Opera also uses this orchestra for their productions.
An earlier, part-time ensemble, the Milwaukee Pops Orchestra, had been established a decade before the orchestra's inception. With the appointment of Harry John Brown as its inaugural music director, the orchestra legally adopted the name Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in 1959.
Ken-David Masur made his conducting debut with the orchestra in May of 2018. In September 2018, the orchestra promptly re-engaged him for a future guest-conducting visit. In light of these performances, the orchestra announced Masur's appointment as music director in November 2018. His tenure began with the 2019–2020 and remained for four seasons.
As of right away, Masur was officially named music director-designate. Along with composers including Erich Korngold, Daron Hagen, Lukas Foss, Philip Glass, Geoffrey Gordon, Gian Carlo Menotti, and Roy Harris, the orchestra has performed over a hundred world and American premieres of compositions by these and other names.
