Mikey Lion is more than a DJ. He's a part mythical desert harlequin, part modern soul conductor. He's a natural freak and a master of energy. Over the last few years, the San Diego native has built a dusty mystique as the driving force behind the Desert Hearts movement and as a house and techno provocateur with a stage presence that implies he'll ride this wave to the top. If there's one thing Mikey knows how to do, it's starting a party.
Lion has raised a racket on the stages of Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man's dustiest storms, and Coachella's The Do LaB, getting nods from Claude VonStroke, Jamie Jones, and Green Velvet. As a result, Lion and his trademark top hat have established a boisterous presence in the House & Techno scene, complete with strong tribal, hip-hop, and psychedelic influences.
However, it all began with Wu-Tang Clan and Daft Punk. Lion got his start behind the decks when he was thirteen, scratching underground hip-hop tracks every night after school. He saw that famed Daft Punk concert at Coachella as a seventeen-year-old on the same night he took his first dose of psychedelics. The show had such an impression on him that the next day he quit Hip-Hop and became a House DJ.
