Michael Spyres Information
Missouri native Michael Spyres began his musical training at Vienna's prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts. He received widespread acclaim when he sang the title part of Rossini's Otello at the 2008 Rossini in Wildbad festival in Germany. In 2009, he made his operatic debut in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims at La Scala in Milan, and the following year, he appeared at Bard SummerScape in New York in the demanding lead part of Raoul in Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots.
Since then, he has sung the title role in both Mozart's Mitridate, Re di Ponto and Rossini's Guillaume Tell at the Royal Opera House in London; he has also sung the title role in Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust at the Opéra National de Bordeaux and the title role in Jacques Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann at the Liceu in Barcelona.
During his 2018 performance of Vasco da Gama in Meyerbeer's L'Africaine at the Oper Frankfurt, Spyres received acclaim for his portrayal of the explorer. At the Opéra-Comique in Paris in March 2019, he sang the title character in a new Adolphe Adam's Le postillon de Lonjumeau production.
