Mayer Hawthorne Information
Andrew Mayer Cohen is an American multi-instrumentalist, DJ, audio engineer, arranger, singer, producer, and songwriter. He is professionally known by his stage name, Mayer Hawthorne. Cohen's stage name "Mayer Hawthorne" is a blend of his true middle name (Mayer) and the street where he grew up, Hawthorne Road.
Before coming to Los Angeles in 2005, Hawthorne was a part of the Ann Arbor-based ensemble Athletic Mic League (DJ Haircut). The label's head, Peanut Butter Wolf, signed him to Stones Throw Records. The Mayer Hawthorne tracks were originally made for sampling and enjoyment, but Peanut Butter Wolf insisted on their being turned into an album after hearing them. Hawthorne has no prior vocal experience.
The debut song from Hawthorne, "On November 4, 2008, Stones Throw Records released "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out"/"When I Said Goodbye" on a red heart-shaped 7" vinyl. On a 12-inch single, his second single, "Maybe So, Maybe No"/"I Wish It Would Rain," was released "Stones Throw Records released the album on April 19, 2009. On September 8, 2009, Stones Throw Records published his debut album, A Strange Arrangement, on CD and LP.
On October 17, 2011, Mayer Hawthorne appeared as a musical guest on Conan, and on October 25, 2011, he appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. The group performed "The Walk," his first song from How Do You Do, on both shows.
