Mary Lattimore Information
Mary Lattimore (1980) is an American harpist. She was born in Asheville, North Carolina. When Lattimore was 11 years old, she started studying the harp. At first, she wasn't interested in it, but as she improved, this started to alter. She worked on the college radio as an Eastman School of Music student. Lattimore's participation in the Valerie Project, which issued its self-titled first album in 2007, was one of her earliest musical endeavors. The goal was to serve as a substitute soundtrack for the movie Valerie and Her Week of Wonders.
Lattimore's debut solo effort, a self-titled cassette, was released in 2012 on Fred Thomas' Life Like imprint. This CD was reissued by Desire Path Recordings as The Withdrawing Room the following year. Slant of Light, a song by Lattimore and Zeigler, was published in 2014 on Thrill Jockey. That year, Lattimore also gave a Pew Fellowship grant, allowing her to travel around California and Texas and record the album At the Dam, published in 2016 by Ghostly International. The Hoover Dam article in Joan Didion's 1979 book The White Album inspired the album's title.
One of the 2021 episodes of Atlas Obscura features Lattimore's harp playing. She contributed to the instrumental duet "Sugar Kiss" on Steve Gunn's album Other You (Matador, August 30, 2021).
