Madi Diaz Information
Madi Diaz (May 14, 1986) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. Diaz was raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where she was educated at home by her Danish father, Eric, a woodworker and pianist, and her Peruvian mother, Nancy, an advocate of early childhood development and the visual arts. At age five, Diaz's father started her piano lessons. Diaz abandoned the piano for the guitar when she was a young teen. As Madi Diaz-Svalgard, she was featured in Don Argott's 2005 documentary Rock School.
After completing high school, Diaz got accepted to study at Berklee College of Music. She met Kyle Ryan, a Nebraska guitarist who would become Berklee's longtime writing partner. Their partnership began when Diaz was offered the opportunity to record an album in Hawaii by a fellow student who was a producer looking for a project. Diaz and Ryan's lasting creative and performing collaboration resulted in the self-released album Skin And Bones (2007). Soon after, Diaz stopped attending Berklee.
Diaz and Ryan kept writing and started doing gigs in New York City venues in 2008. There she connected with her manager and eventually signed with Cherry Lane Music. After Diaz and Ryan spent a month writing in Nashville in 2010, they uprooted to the Music City in the middle of that year.
