Lykke Li (March 18, 1986) is a Swedish actress, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Ystad, Skane County. In 2007, Lykke Li dropped her debut extended play, Little Bit. Her music has been described as a fusion of soul, electro, and "powdered-sugar pop" by Stereogum, who named her an artist to watch in October 2007. Youth Novels, Li's debut album, was released on January 30, 2008, in the Nordic region and on a wider scale in Europe in June 2008.
According to reports, the album's inspiration came from the pair's three-year relationship, which Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John and Lasse Mrtén produced. On August 19, 2008, it was released in the United States. Promotion for the album's June 2008 release in the UK included a "Little Bit" performance on the 25th episode of Later... with Jools Holland.
Lykke Li's live set only included the bare essentials: a guitar, a bass, a microphone, and a drum kit. After the success of Youth Novels, Lykke Li played at music festivals like Glastonbury, Coachella, and Lollapalooza to sold-out crowds. She made a guest appearance on Conan O'Brien's Late Night show. She contributed vocals to the song "Until We Bleed" on the self-titled album by the Swedish singer Kleerup.
