Liam Benzvi is an American singer, composer, and songwriter. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. Benzvi's music is renowned for its sensual shoegaze and dream pop elements, and his voice is baritone. The Brooklyn-based new wave-pop band Strange Names were founded by Benzvi, Francis Ximenez, and Fletcher Aleckson. Both Use Your Time Wisely (Frenchkiss Records, 2015) and Data (Frenchkiss Records, 2017) are the band's two full-length albums (Frenchkiss Records, 2018).
His former classmate Azealia Banks was among the New York City musicians that the band supported. He says the band's sound was influenced by artists like Indoor Life, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Patrick Cowley, and Tuxedomoon. Amnesia, USA, his first EP as a solo artist, came out in 2019 on Terrible Records. Acts of Service, Benzvi's debut solo album, was released in 2022 through Terrible Records. Joe Valle of Wet collaborated in producing the album's ten tracks.
Luca Venter was in charge of the music video for "Hiccup," the single. Benzvi, Dev Hynes, Tariq Al-Sabir, Eva Tolkin, and Ian Isiah, all members of Harry Styles' Love on Tour, played at Madison Square Garden in 2022. Janelle Monáe, Yeasayer, Porches, the Drums, and Wet are among the acts he has supported as an opening act. The artist has stated that early 2000s Madonna, the B-52s, Siouxsie Sioux, the Cure, Blonde Redhead, Frou Frou, and Cyndi Lauper albums are major influences.
