Kim Petras Information
Kim Petras (August 27, 1992) is a German singer-songwriter now residing in Los Angeles and born in Bonn, Germany. Petras has been releasing songs independently under the name BunHead Records since 2016. In 2020, she signed with Amigo and Republic Records.
During her adolescent years, Petras began her recording career. She has labeled the collection of tracks she released between 2017 and 2019 as "Era 1," and it includes songs like "I Don't Want It at All," "Heart to Break," and "1, 2, 3 Dayz Up." Numerous singles from these albums made it onto Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs list. Petras has released two full-length albums independently in 2019: Clarity and Turn Off the Light.
After announcing her signing with Republic Records in 2021, Petras dropped her debut EP, Slut Pop, the following year. Petras became the first openly transgender solo artist in the US to achieve number one with her tune "Unholy," which she recorded in collaboration with Sam Smith in 2022 and released as a single. The song topped charts abroad, including the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100.
Petras was the first openly transgender musician to win a Grammy Award (for "Unholy" in 2023) and the second transgender woman to win a Grammy after Wendy Carlos. In 2023, Petras won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
