Kathleen Edwards Information
Kathleen Edwards (July 11, 1978) is a Canadian singer, musician, and songwriter. She was born in Ottawa, Ontario. She learned classical violin at five and continued it for 12 years. She lived overseas as a teenager, where she spent more of her time listening to her brother’s records of Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Edwards decided not to attend post-secondary education and opted to play local clubs to pay her bills. She recorded an EP entitled Building 55 in 1999 and pressed almost 500 copies. She went on a tour by the fall of 2000 across Canada, where she managed her gigs.
Edwards wrote almost seven of the ten songs that she included on her 2002 debut release entitled, Failer. in 2002, she also played at SXSW and signed a record deal with Rounder Records. Shortly after, she signed another deal with Maple Music. Her album, Failer, was released in Canada in 2002 through MapleMusic Recordings.
On March 1, 2005, Edwards released her second studio album entitled, Back to Me. Other studio albums include Asking for Flowers (March 4, 2008), Voyageur (January 17, 2012), and Total Freedom (August 14, 2020). Notable singles of her career are “Six O’Clock News,” “One More Song the Radio Won’t Like,” “I Make the Dough, You Get the Glory,” “Change the Sheets,” “It Must Have Been Love,” “Option Open,” and “Hard On Everyone.”
