Juan Carmona Information
Juan Carmona is a virtuoso flamenco guitarist who has won numerous awards. While best renowned for his fiery live performances, he has also released several albums, including the Grammy Award–nominated Orillas (2003). Carmona, a Frenchman of gypsy ancestry, was born in Lyon in 1963. His father gave him his first guitar when he was ten years old.
In 1996, Carmona returned to his native France and began his solo music career with Borboreo, a tribute to Jerez de la Frontera produced by Isidro Muoz and published by L'Empreinte Digitale. He started his band, Juan Carmona Grupo, and toured relentlessly from the United States to Russia.
He also began actively pursuing a diverse range of musical collaborations, working with jazz and classical artists and contributing to the musical soundtracks of several films. After the release of his debut solo album, he continued to work with L'Empreinte Digitale on several other projects, including a 1997 collaboration with Françoise Atlan on Falla Lorca, a collection of Spanish folk and a 1998 collaboration with José Mendez on Entre Dos Barrios, an album in the jerezana style.
