Johannes Debus Information
Johannes Debus has been working as a Music Director of the Canadian Opera Company (COC) since 2009. He was appointed immediately after his debut in the industry. In the 2018-19 season, Debus debuted with the Hallé Orchestra, ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Milwaukee Symphony. He also engaged with the Frankfurt Radio, Toronto, and San Diego Symphonies. He made his Opera Santa Fe debut conducting Jenufa in the summer of 2019. Debus regularly conducts Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, and Frankfurt Opera.
Johannes Debus graduated from the Hamburg Conservatoire before engaging himself as a répétiteur. To date, he has successfully conducted a wide range of world premieres along with the twentieth and twenty-first centuries works.
Debus also appeared in new productions at English National Opera and Opéra National de Lyon, as well as made his debut at the BBC Proms with Britten’s Sinfonia in 2014. Debus conducted a new production of The Tales of Hoffmann at the Bregenz Festival 2005. The main highlights of the 2017-18 season by Debus include a return to the Metropolitan Opera conducting The Tales of Hoffmann along with his debuts in the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, Seattle, Oregon, and Kansas City Symphonies, and finally, return to the Bregenz Festival.
Debus has also appeared as a guest conductor in many international festivals such as the Festival d’Automne in Paris, Lincoln Center Festival, the Biennale di Venezia and Schwetzingen Festivals, Suntory Summer Festival and Spoleto Festival. He was also sighted with The Cleveland Orchestra, the Philharmonia in London, and Boston Symphony Orchestra.
