Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott (January 20, 1995) is an American actor, rapper, and singer. He was born in New York City. Joey Badass's first mixtape, 1999, was released in June 2012 to widespread acclaim, and subsequent releases in September 2012 (Rejex) and July 2013 (Summer Knights) continued the momentum. In January 2015, he released his first studio album, B4.Da.$$. His first T.V. appearance was in 2016 on Mr. Robot, airing on U.S.A. Network.
Joey Badass said in an interview with XXL that he got his start listening to Nas, 2Pac, Black Thought, MF DOOM, J Dilla, Andre 3000, Jay-Z, and The Notorious B.I.G. Rappers Big L and Nas, from Nas's Illmatic period, have both been cited as influences. Joey Badass dropped a three-song E.P. in July of 2020 titled The Light Pack. He was featured on "On My Shit" by Phony Ppl in November.
His third studio album, 2000, was announced on May 11, 2022. Due to sample clearance concerns, he announced on Twitter that he would have to postpone the project from its original release date of June 17, 2022. Diddy, Westside Gunn, Larry June, Chris Brown, Capella Grey, and J.I.D. made cameos on the album, dropping on July 22, 2022. In addition, he went on a summer concert tour of 20 dates beginning on July 1, 2022, in Boston and ending on July 28, 2022, in Los Angeles, appropriately titled the 1999-2000 Tour.
