Jimmy Fortune (March 11, 1955) is an American country music singer and musician. He is from Nelson County, Virginia, and went to Nelson County High School in Lovingston. His music is classified as country. For approximately 21 years, Fortune sang tenor for The Statler Brothers. He also wrote the song “Elizabeth” for the group. He began to perform as a solo artist soon after The Statler Brothers retired.
Jimmy Fortune wrote many number one songs recorded by the Statler Brothers. Some favorite ones are “Too Much on My Heart,” “My Only Love,” and “More Than a Name on a Wall.” The last one was a top ten country hit. In 2002, he began to perform as a solo artist. Since then, Fortune has continued as a songwriter, and he has successfully had a variety of projects in Nashville.
Hits & Hymns was a 2015 release by Jimmy Fortune. Ben Isaacs produced the album, and it reached Top Ten on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. “Jimmy Fortune: Hits & Hymns,” a TV special DVD that Bill Gaither hosted, debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Music Video chart.
