Four-piece Ithaca, New York band Jimkata plays electro-rock. Jimkata is a reminder of the current lengths a quartet can go without straying too far from their rock roots, blending electric guitars, bass, and drum kit with synths and synthetic rhythms. Evan Friedell, Aaron Gorsch, Dave Rossi, and Packy Lunn have crafted a truly unique and appealing sound across multiple releases, including in-depth studio albums and explosive live rock performances, earning them a reputation as "one of the best up-and-coming bands" on jambase.com.
Jimkata's first studio album, Burn My Money, was released in the fall of 2009 to widespread acclaim and over 2,000 free downloads on their new website, jimkata.com. "Burn My Money," an album made up of 13 new and tried-and-true songs, has a subtlety that allows the listener to feel the beat of the music while also connecting with the album's timely words. Their latest album is available for free or a donation at jimkata.com.
Brewery Ommegang also helps fund Jimkata's East Coast travels. They have played alongside legends such as Snoop Dogg, Umphrey's McGee, Bob Weir and Ratdog, The Wailers, and The Disco Biscuits. They have become crowd favorites at Camp Bisco, Up North, Grassroots Festival, Great Blue Heron Festival, and Starscape Festival. Following a successful spring tour, they will enter the studio in June 2010 to begin work on the follow-up to Burn My Money, just in time for the festival-filled summer.
