Jim Messina Information

James Messina (December 5, 1947)  is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and sound engineer born in Maywood, California. He played in several bands, including Buffalo Springfield (a folk-rock ensemble), Poco (an early country music group), and Loggins and Messina (a soft rock pair with Kenny Loggins).

He collaborated with "His Jesters" on the LP The Dragsters in November 1964 when he was sixteen. His lead guitar work on the 2003 CD Lost Legends of Surf Guitar Volume (the tune "The Jester") stands out.

While working on the concept for his debut solo album in 1979, Messina visited with A&R subsidiary Columbia Records' Don Ellis. Ellis disapproved of Messina's recent musical shift toward rock-infused Latin jazz, and he found out since it didn't sound like an album by Loggins and Messina. The first LP, which Messina supported with a tour, sold 150,000 copies—roughly on par with Sittin' In's sales.

Both the CD and DVD Jim Messina LIVE at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts were published by Messina in 2012. It featured songs from Buffalo Springfield, Poco, Loggins & Messina, and his solo work.

As a recording and mixing engineer, studio owner, and touring musician, he is still very much involved in the publishing, production, and electronics industries.
