Perry Miller (November 22, 1941) is an American singer and songwriter. He is professionally known by his stage name, Jesse Colin Young born in Queens, New York. Young was ejected from the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, where he had won a scholarship to study classical guitar in 1959. When Young graduated from high school, he enrolled at Ohio State University, where he listened to a wider variety of music while living behind a record store.
After the first semester, Young moved back in with his parents in Pennsylvania. In 1961, he enrolled at New York University. In the early 1960s, Young crossed paths with producer Bobby Scott, who helped Young get recording sessions. In 1964, Young released his first album, The Soul of a City Boy, the product of a four-hour recording session with just an acoustic guitar.
In 1965, Young released Young Blood, his second album produced by Scott, and his cover of George Remaily's "Four in the Morning" was played on the radio. Before beginning work on his 1972 solo album Together for Warner Bros. Records, Young constructed a recording studio next to his home in Inverness, California, in 1970. After the release of High on a Ridge Top, the Youngbloods' final album, in November 1972, Young decided to disband the group due to the album's success.
