Jennifer Koh Information
Jennifer Koh (1976) is an American violinist. She was born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Koh graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Oberlin College and a Performance Diploma in piano performance from the Oberlin Conservatory. She won the gold prize in the 1994 Tchaikovsky Competition and earned a degree from the Curtis Institute. A Concert Artists Guild scholarship she entered that year was also awarded to her. In 1995, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant.
Koh is an advocate for music education for children and has played with the WORDSCleveland Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony, and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, among many others. He has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the Saint Louis Symphony.
Her Bach performances have garnered her much praise. Her Bach and Beyond series, for which she played and recorded, was widely praised by critics. She frequently gives world premieres of new works by composers like Kaija Saariaho, John Zorn, and Esa-Pekka Salonen and records their music.
Koh reprised his role as Albert Einstein in the 2012 production of the Philip Glass/Robert Wilson opera Einstein on the Beach. Koh works as an educator at New York's Mannes College of Music.
