Jawny Information
Jacob Lee-Nicholas Sullenger (December 23, 1995) is an American producer, singer, and songwriter, professionally known by his stage name, Jawny. He rose to prominence following his track "Honeypie" in 2019 and was signed to Interscope Records in January 2020. In late October 2020, he released the mixtape For Abby, which marked his major-label debut.
Sullenger is a San Francisco native who grew up in the Bay Area. He began playing the guitar at six and began writing songs in early adolescence. He went to college for a year and a half to study nursing before pursuing music. To pay his debts, he also ran a pizza in New Jersey.
Sullenger relocated to Philadelphia at the age of 20 in 2016, where he began composing music under the alias Johnny Utah. The moniker was inspired by the character played by Keanu Reeves in the 1991 film Point Break.
Sullenger released a self-titled EP on Z Tapes Records in January 2018. "Folding Like Honey," "PATTY," and "Crazy For Your Love" were among the other singles he released that year. His songs were also included in the Spotify collection "Bedroom Pop." The tracks were combined into a second EP, Big Dogs, via Z Tapes Records in November 2018. "Really Meant," another song from the EP, was featured in a 2019 episode of HBO's High Maintenance.
