James Gillespie, a singer/songwriter from the United Kingdom, rose to fame in 2017 because of personal tracks like "What You Do," showcasing his raspy voice, bluesy melodic sense, and skill with the guitar. Although he was born in England and grew up in Scotland, Gillespie settled in London and spent several years on the summer festival circuit in Europe and the UK's folk festival circuit before releasing his first single.
In 2014, he went on tour with Turin Brakes, by which time he had already amassed several endorsements for various guitar and pedal stations and voice-related gadgets. However, it wasn't until his single "What You Do" dropped in February 2017 that he caught the attention of millions of new listeners.
Later the same year, his rendition of "Don't Let Me Get Me" by P!nk also went viral, and he was invited to join the pop artist onstage at a few of her tour locations. His 2018 singles "Dead in the Water" and "Lost" were both radio staples. Gillespie recruited Two Inch Punch (Sam Smith, Years & Years) and longtime associate Andy Hall Hall to co-produce his first full-length album.
