Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Information
The Jacksonville Symphony is a Florida-based orchestra. At the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, it plays most of its concerts in Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall. It is one of the few American orchestras with a dedicated concert hall.
Famous musicians, including Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Arthur Fiedler, have performed with the Jacksonville Symphony since its 1949 founding, making it one of the longest-running orchestras in Florida. Throughout Florida and the rest of the South, the Jacksonville Symphony has performed in various settings, from stages to senior centers and schools. On WJCT-FM, locals may tune in to JSO broadcasts every week.
Through its appearances on Performance Today, a program on National Public Radio, the Jacksonville Symphony has reached listeners all around the country.
With an average of over 200,000 listeners yearly, the Jacksonville Symphony brings a wide range of symphonic music to a wide audience in Florida. Children make up over a third of the population, and they are the ones who gain the most from the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra, after-school enrichment Jump Start Strings, and performances.
Symphony musicians educate almost 15,000 kids and 1,500 elders in the four-county area through educational group performances in schools, including Spring Park primary and senior facilities; this is in addition to the approximately 130 concerts the Symphony performs throughout the season.
