Irish Tenors Information
Anthony Kearns, Declan Kelly, and Ronan Tynan form the Irish vocal trio called The Irish Tenors. While at the Cannes Film Festival, Daniel Harte and Bill Hughes came up with the notion of a trio of Irish tenors. The Irish Tenors: Live in Dublin was first shown on American television in 1999. Despite PBS's interest in the group's burgeoning popularity, McDermott could not devote himself entirely to the project after the death of his mother in early 2000.
After Ronan Tynan departed for a solo career, Kearns, Wright, and McDermott briefly rejoined the group and appeared on the 2005 album Sacred. Karl Scully became a band member in 2006, taking over for McDermott and Tynan. The Irish Tenors & Friends was a nine-part TV series that the increasingly popular vocal combination presented for RTÉ in Ireland.
On the TV special featuring The Irish Tenors, friends such as Paul Carrick, Finbar Furey, Hayley Westenra, Shayne Ward, Sharon Shannon, Peter Grant, Lucia Evans, Rebecca Storm, and Celine Byrne performed. Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber was also a guest star. At the trio's 2007 Charleston engagement, the South Carolina legislature presented a "Proclamation" to welcome them to the state.
