Indigo Girls Information
Indigo Girls are a folk-rock duo that originated in Atlanta, Georgia, consisting of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. They started performing as Indigo Girls as students at Emory University, performing weekly at The Dugout, a bar in Emory Village. The duo has been famous for giving the genre a new texture. The first release for the duo happened in 1985. The track was a seven-inch single named “Crazy Game,” while the B-side included “Everybody’s Waiting (for Someone to Come Home).”
The Indigo Girls released a self-titled six-track EP album and in 1987 released their first full-length album, Strange Fire. Their first major-label release was Indigo Girls, reaching 22 on the album chart. With this, they managed a week on the mainstream rock album-oriented rock music chart at 48.
In 1995, the group released 1200 Curfews; later, Shaming of the Sun was released in 1997, then Come on Now Social in 1999. “Shaming of the Sun” debuted at seven on the charts. In 1990, the duo won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and in 2019 the pair secured the Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts.
Their first Hollywood album, “Despite Our Differences,” was produced by Mitchell Froom and released on September 19, 2006. It was described as the most infectious, pop-infused set that the duo ever has managed to concoct. In 2010, Indigo Girls’ second full-length live album, “Staring Down the Brilliant Dream,” was released on IG Recordings. On October 12, 2010, this was followed with their first holiday album, “Holly Happy Days.”
The duo’s thirteenth studio album, entitled “Beauty Queen Sister,” was released on October 4, 2011, with their fourteenth studio album, “One Lost Day,” in 2015. Their latest album, “Look Long,” was the fifteen-studio album by the American folk duo and was on air on May 22, 2020. The album has had a positive reception from critics.
