Ibrahim Maalouf Information
Ibrahim Maalouf (November 5, 1980) is a French-Lebanese composer, trumpeter, arranger, and producer. He was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His father, a former pupil of French trumpeter Maurice André at the Conservatoire de Paris, began teaching him the trumpet when he was seven. He studied the classical, baroque, modern, and contemporary styles, improvisation, and classical Arabic music.
The ability to play Arabic maqams on the trumpet was made feasible by the invention of the microtonal trumpet, sometimes known as the "quarter-tone trumpet," by his father. Maalouf toured with his father as a pair, singing baroque music by composers such as Tomasso, Giovanni Albinoni, Henry Purcell, and Antonio Vivaldi as a teenager. He played one of the most challenging classical pieces ever written, Johann Sebastian Bach's Second Brandenburg Concerto. Maurice André suggested he abandon physics for music.
Following André's guidance, he enrolled in the Conservatoire de Paris and stayed there for five years. Matthieu Chedid, Vincent Delerm, and Arthur H. recorded with him. He taught at CNR d'Aubervilliers-La Courneuve and traveled to the United States to conduct master classes. Diasporas, released in 2007, was his debut solo effort under his imprint. He has written music for choral groups, symphony orchestras, and scoring films.
