Ian Moore Information
At the urging of his parents, Ian Moore picked up the violin when he was six and eventually switched to the guitar when he was nine. The Austin blues-rocker lists the Beatles, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, and Sly & the Family Stone as early inspirations. As a guitarist, Moore got some road time with Joe Ely, which eventually led to a solo tour supporting the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. Capricorn signed him, and between 1993 and 1995, he released three albums: Ian Moore, Live from Austin EP, and Modern-day Folklore.
Modern-day Folklore, the Texan's most recent Capricorn album, hinted that he was expanding his musical horizons beyond the blues-rock genre typical of his native state. Moore's music evolved from solely trading in blues riffs to including hints of Southern soul, gospel, and Beatlesque pop. After a four-year hiatus, in 1999, Ian Moore released Got the Green Grass, a far cry from his blues-rock roots. His celebrated guitar playing continued, but it wasn't the only thing propelling Moore's tunes. With his 2000 album And All the Colors, he continued his investigation of the blues while incorporating carefully made pop tunes.
Ian Moore and his traveling band Action Company produced their first full-length live album, Via Satellite (2001). Although previous albums had successfully juggled electric blues and ambient songwriting, Via Satellite achieved seamless integration of the two styles. Moore returned in 2004 with Luminaria, his debut album for the Yep Roc label out of North Carolina. The follow-up album, To Be Loved, was released by Justice three years later.
