Helene Grimaud Information
Hélène Rose Paule Grimaud (November 7, 1969) is the proprietor of the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, New York, and a French classical pianist. Grimaud is well-known for her many accomplishments, including her virtuoso piano playing, her work as an activist for human rights, her dedication to protecting animals, and her writing.
She studied the piano under Jacqueline Courtin at the regional conservatory before moving to Pierre Barbizet in Marseille. She received first place in piano playing three years after being admitted to the Paris Conservatoire at thirteen.
She kept studying with György Sándor and Leon Fleisher until her 1987 debut performance in Tokyo, which was well-received. The same year, she was invited by the famous conductor Daniel Barenboim to perform with the Orchestre de Paris.
In 1995, she made her debut with Claudio Abbado's Berliner Philharmoniker, and in 1999, she performed with Kurt Masur's New York Philharmonic. During this period, Grimaud founded South Salem, New York's Wolf Conservation Center.
Silent Songs, an album of Valentin Silvestrov's music, was issued by Hélène in 2023 as a tribute to the finest living musician from Ukraine. With the help of the 2018 International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition winner, the young baritone Konstantin Krimmel, Grimaud performs the melodies and nostalgic undertones of some of the most breathtakingly beautiful poetry ever written.
