Heilung Information
Heilung is a Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish band that plays unusual folk music. Their songs are based on ancient Germanic texts and runic inscriptions from the Iron Age and Viking Age. "Amplified history from early medieval northern Europe" is how Heilung describes the sound of their band. The Jtnar, valkyries, and other Germanic deities are common themes in their music. The German term "Heilung" translates to "healing" in English.
Kai Uwe Faust, the band's frontman, and Christopher Juul, the group's Danish producer, formed Heilung in 2014 in Copenhagen. Since 2003, Juul has run his recording studio in Copenhagen under the name Lava. He met Faust, a tattoo artist whose work Juul loved, and the two made a deal: Faust would ink Juul for free in exchange for his assistance in recording some poetry. That's how Heilung got going.
Both Castlefest and Midgardsblot Metal Festival saw the band's first 2017 appearances. Life, a recording of their performance at Castlefest, was later available on YouTube as a live album. Both Ofnir and Lifa, released independently in the past, were re-released on vinyl and CD on April 20, 2018.
The team wrote the music for the Senua's Saga: Hellblade II video game. Pieces of Heilung's music were included in the sixth season of the hit TV show Vikings. On August 19, 2022, Season of Mist I published Drift, Heilung's third studio album. The album reached the top 10 in Germany and the top 25 in Austria.
