Health Information
In August of 2007, Health became widely known thanks to a remix of their song "Crimewave" by the experimental electronic band Crystal Castles. Health's fanbase grew partly thanks to this cover, published a month before the band's debut on Lovepump United. The Smell, a noise/experimental venue in Los Angeles, was the setting for the recording of the band's self-titled album.
Health knew the challenges and potential rewards of recording in the area because of its DIY mystique. The band ran a promotion to promote their 2009 album Get Color by sending the winner to Los Angeles to enjoy a day at Six Flags Magic Mountain on the house. Band members' hair and even blood-signed posters were also given away as prizes.
Some have said Health's music consists of "artfully crafted noise and raw synth, haunting monotone vocals, and drum skills that are borderline insane." The Zoothorn, a hybrid microphone and guitar pedal hybrid, contributes to the band's distinctive sound by creating irregular, asymmetrical tones.
