Hanzhi Wang Information
Award-winning young musician Hanzhi Wang is the first accordionist in the 58-year history of the Young Concert Artists roster. Her hour-long performance on New York's WQXR's Young Artists Showcase on episode 2,145 made history as the first solo accordionist performance on the program.
Hanzhi Wang was named Musical America's "solo accordion artist of the year." It was nominated for the 2019 DR (Danish Radio) P2 Prize and incorporates music by Danish composers such as "The Little Match Girl," created for her by Martin Lohse. Mr. Lohse isn't the only modern composer to acknowledge Ms. Wang's talent; she has also collaborated extensively with James Black and Sophia Gubaidulina, both of whom have dedicated pieces to her.
Ms. Wang, First Prize Winner of the 2017 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, debuted in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall in The Peter Marino Concert and at the Kennedy Center in the 40th Anniversary Young Concert Artists Series, co-presented by Washington Performing Arts.
