HALIENE Information
Kelly Melissa Sweet (March 29, 1988) is an American singer of electronic dance music and electropop. She is professionally known by her stage name, Haliene. She was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She was born into a musical family and grew up listening to her father perform jazz classics. After Haliene learned to walk, she and her father began studying music together. At age four, she gave her first public concert at the Cape Cod Conservatory.
Sweet and her mother relocated to Kanab, Utah, when she was seven years old, following her parents' split. She hired a vocal coach and started performing regularly at local events like county fairs and community theaters to hone her craft. She attended the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts Summer Arts Camp in northern Michigan during the summers of 2000 and 2001, where she majored in musical theatre. After two years of living between Kanab, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles in pursuit of performance opportunities, Sweet and her mother hit the road.
The Los Angeles Lakers hired 14-year-old Haliene to perform the National Anthem on three separate instances after hearing her demo CD. Sweet was highlighted in a July 2006 USA Today story about promising "serious female singers." We Are One and Ready For Love, both from an EP by Sweet that came out in October 2006, have been featured in episodes of the NBC show Passions and the ABC show One Life to Live, respectively, both of which are daily soap operas.
