Grand Rapids Symphony Information
One of the best orchestras in the world may be found in Grand Rapids, Michigan: the Grand Rapids Symphony. The 2019-2020 season will mark the Symphony's 90th anniversary since its inception in 1930. Its 2006 album Invention and Alchemy was nominated for a Grammy for Best Classical Crossover Album.
Over 200,000 people attend the Grands Rapids Symphony's 400+ annual performances across the state, and you may listen to their broadcasts on WBLU-FM (88.5) and WBLV-FM (101.9) in West Michigan (90.3). Nearly 80,000 people in Michigan benefit from the 18 educational and access programs this organization runs. Marcelo Lehninger has been the conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony since 2016.
Opera Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Ballet are two of the many groups that the Grand Rapids Symphony has worked with to put on live events. To bring people together from different backgrounds, the Grand Rapids Symphony puts on a concert each year called "Symphony with Soul," which often features prominent African-American musicians from both the area and beyond. The Grand Rapids Symphony's "Mosaic Scholarship Fund," established in 2005 with a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, will receive a portion of the earnings from this event. Young people of African American and Latino descent in the Grand Rapids area have access to musical instruments and instruction thanks to a scholarship fund.
