Gino Vannelli Information
Gino Vannelli (June 16, 1952) is a Canadian songwriter and rock singer from Montreal, Quebec. He was born into an Italian family, and his father used to sing with the Montreal dance bands of trumpeters Maynard Ferguson and Bix Belair. As a young artist, his ambition was to be a drummer. Vannelli was an admirer of Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. He used to play drums during high school. At the age of 17, in the year 1969, he signed a contract with RCA Records, using the name Vann Elli.
Vannelli studied music theory at McGill University, located in Montreal.
In 1972, Vannelli, along with his brother Joe, moved to Los Angeles, all broke and desperate. After waiting for hours in the parking lot of A&M Studios, Vennalli managed to lend his demo tape to the co-owner of the studio and later got signed. He released his debut album in the summer of 1973, entitled Crazy Life. Vannelli is stated to be one of the first to appear on the program Soul Train (a television dance program). Later in 197, he got invited to tour along with Stevie Wonder.
