Frankie Avalon Information
Frankie Avalon (September 18, 1939) is an American singer, actor, and former teen idol born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Avalon made his American network television debut in December 1952, where he played the trumpet in the Honeymooners “Christmas Party” sketch during The Jackie Gleason Show. Avalon on the trumpet has been featured on many of his LP songs. He played with Bobby Rydell in the Saints and Rocco as a teenager. His songs “Why” and “Venus” reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He made his film debut in 1957 when he appeared in Jamboree, where he also played the trumpet and sang “Teacher’s Pet.” Avalon released over 30 charted United States Billboard singles from 1958 to 1962. The singles include “A Boy Without a Girl” that reached number 10, “Bobby Sox to Stockings” that reached number 8, “I’ll Wait For You” that reached number 15, and “Just Ask Your Heart” that reached number 7.
In 1961, Avalon had a small role in the science fiction based adventure film named “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.” Irwin Allen was the producer of the film, and he hired Avalon to sing the title song of the movie as well. In 1963, Avalon made a war movie for AIP along with Tab Hunter named “Operation Bikini.” As a singer and songwriter, Avalon has released a few notable albums so far in his career, including Swingin’ on a Rainbow (1959), Summer Scene (1960), and A Whole Lotta Frankie (1961).
