Frank Marino Information
Frank Antonio Marino (November 20, 1954) is an Italian Canadian guitarist, songwriter, musician, and leader of the Canadian hard rock band called Mahogany Rush. Marina is often compared with Jimi Hendrix because his playing seems inspired by Hendrix. He was born in Montreal, Quebec. He had played the drums since the age of five, and once he turned 13-14, Marino began to play the guitar as well.
Marino is notable for playing cover versions of Hendrix classics such as “All Along The Watchtower” and “Purple Haze.” His band Mahogany Rush was popular in the 1970s at a moderate scale. The band’s recordings charted in Billboard. The group also toured extensively. Mahogany Rush has performed with a few well-known brands that include Ted Nugent and Aerosmith. In 1978, the band played at California Jam II. The band started to be billed as “Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush” at the end of the 1970s.
After Mahogany Rush split up in the early 1980s, Marino released two solo albums under CBS. The band reformed once again and continued its performances throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Marino later formed his audio recording studio in 1990 called “Starbase Studio,” located in Montreal, Quebec. His solo albums include The Power of Rock ‘n’ Roll (1981), Juggernaut (1982), Full Circle (1986), From the Hip (1990), Guitar Heroes Vol 4 – Frank Marino Stories of a Hero (1999), Full Circle (2005), and The Power of Rock and Roll / Juggernaut (2012).
