Finley Quaye Information
Finley Quaye (March 25, 1974) is a Scottish musician. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. In his early years, Finley Quaye found musical inspiration in the works of jazz musicians Pete King, Ronnie Scott (who got his start in music by making tea and errands for Finley's father's band), and Lionel Hampton. When Quaye was a little boy, his mother would take him to Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London to see American jazz musicians like Buddy Rich, who recorded a live CD there in 1980 while they were touring Europe.
New York became home for Quaye once he signed a solo recording contract with Polydor Records. In late 1997, he had two singles, "Sunday Shining" and "Even After All," that made it into the Top 20 in the United Kingdom. He began working with Epic/Sony after his contract with Polydor was terminated. After the success of his September 1997 album release, Maverick A Strike, he became widely known. There was an immediate success; less than three weeks later, they won the BRIT Award. In the UK, the album has been awarded 2x platinum status.
Quaye sang "It Ain't Necessarily So" by George Gershwin in 1998 for the compilation CD Red Hot + Rhapsody, a tribute to Gershwin that benefited organizations working to raise AIDS awareness and find a cure. In addition to the previously mentioned albums, Epic released Vanguard (2000) and Much More Than Much Love (2004). When it was released in September of 2000, "Spiritualized" became his final single to crack the top 40 in the UK.
