Declan Patrick MacManus OBE (August 25, 1954) is an English singer, songwriter, record producer, author, and TV host. He goes by the stage name Elvis Costello. OBE is regarded as one of his day's most talented and adaptable songwriters. Many critics consider his first album, 1977's My Aim Is True, the finest debut album ever.
The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics' survey consistently put Elvis Costello's albums near the top from 1977 until the early 2000s, with two of his albums, This Year's Model (1978) and Imperial Bedroom (1982), being named greatest albums of their respective years.
The list of honors that Costello has taken home includes 2 Grammys, 2 Ivor Novellos, 4 Dutch Edisons, 1 MTV VMA, 1 BAFTA, 1 ASCAP Founders, and 1 Gemini. He entered the Hall of Fame in 2003. The Songwriters Hall of Fame included him in its high ranks in 2016.
Spectacle: Elvis Costello with... aired on HBO from 2008 to 2010, featuring interviews with prominent musicians. In January 2022, Costello appeared on The Graham Norton Show. The Boy Named If, an LP he made with the Imposters, was released the next month. In the latter part of that year, a repentant Rusty led the Resurrection of Rust.
With the Slovenian band Joker Out, Costello released a new track titled "New Wave" in April 2023; this also saw the release of The Songs of Bacharach & Costello. Initially scheduled for 2012, he and Italian singer-songwriter Carmen Consoli performed together for three shows in August 2023.
