Early Eyes have persisted through broken hopes, shattered bonds, historic social justice riots in their community, and a society coming apart at the seams to create an album that reflects both the chaos and wearily optimism.
Angst pulses in Look Alive!, accentuated by electronic glitches and unraveling threads of forgotten melodies that reverberate in the background until exploding back to life. In the beginning of a song like "Chemicals," Early Eyes' trademark upbeat and catchy pop-rock can be heard. Yet, the song gradually becomes darker and darker until it finally collapses in an earthquake of rattling, subterranean bass.
Epitaph Records signed Early Eyes in January 2020, and the band released its debut singles that March—just before the global pandemic silenced the music business. As the weeks stretched into months and their city of Minneapolis crumbled in a horrific moment of anger, grief, and protest, the band paused between doing what they could to help mutual aid efforts and locking themselves in the studio to put their complex feelings into song. Parting ways with the band's original rhythm section just added fuel to the fire of their musical rebirth.
