Dolphin Midwives Information
Sage Elaine Fisher is an American composer, performer, and sound artist. Her performance project Dolphin Midwives, abstractions harp, voice, and percussion using electronics, extended approaches, and ceremonial processes. She delves into questions of empathy, sustainability, vulnerability, and transformation using methods such as social experiments, meditation, psychoacoustics, and magic. In May 2016, she independently released a limited tape edition of her debut album, Orchid Milk.
The climax of her six-month engagement at PNCA+OCAC, Naturaphones, was shown at The Bison Building in 2017 alongside four large-scale sonic sculptures, an ambient performance, and several sculptural prototypes. She created and led the Dröna Choir in an exploration of the immense void between quiet and sound through the performance of her new choral piece, invisibility ritual, on the night of the new moon. In December 2018, she had a sound art performance/installation at Variform Gallery titled Break: preparations for the apocalypse.
Beacon Sound/Sounds et al. released Liminal Garden, the debut studio album by Dolphin Midwives, internationally on January 18, 2019. The album was met with critical acclaim, and the band was featured in outlets like The New York Times, SPIN, and The Guardian. Among Willamette Week's "Best New Bands" in Portland in June of 2019, she is quickly becoming a fixture in that publication. She worked with Tucker Martine at Flora Recording and Playback in Portland, OR, in May 2020 to record "Body of Water," published by Beacon Sound on July 9, 2021.
