Jeffrey Allen Townes (January 22, 1965) is an American songwriter, DJ, and record producer. He is professionally known as DJ Jazzy Jeff. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He first became interested in being a DJ when he was eleven years old. DJ Jazzy Jeff became his stage moniker. Along with Will Smith, he was one half of the DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince duo. The three won their first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance for "Parents Just Don't Understand" in 1989, but "Summertime," which earned them their second Grammy Award and reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100, was their most popular song.
