David Fray Information
David Fray's hometown of Tarbes is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees. His father teaches philosophy, while his mother instructs in German. After winning the runner-up prize at the 2004 Montreal International Music Competition, Fray began a successful career as a classical musician. Following this success, he issued "Schubert, Liszt" on the ATMA Classique label, a CD compilation of music by the two composers.
Recent video recordings include Schubert's Wanderer Fantasy and the J.S. Bach piano concertos he performed with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen at the Festival of La Roque d'Anthéron. 2008 saw the publication of his second CD, "Bach / Boulez Piano Recital," another pairing of composers from different eras. John Axelrod, Kurt Masur, Jaap van Zweden, and Christoph Eschenbach are just a few of the illustrious conductors he has shared the stage with.
Among Fray's many accolades are the ADAMI "Révélation Classique" (Classical Discovery) prize, the French Language Public Radio Coalition's "Jeune Soliste de l'Année" honor, and the Hamamatsu Competition's Diploma for Outstanding Merit.
