Danish String Quartet Information
The Danish String Quartet made its debut in 2002 at the Copenhagen Summer Festival. The New York Times selected the concert performed by the quartet in 2012 as a highlight of the year. The Danish String Quartet began a three-year appointment in Chamber Music Society, which is affiliated to Lincoln Center’s CMS Two Program in 2013. The members included in the quartet; violist Asbjørn Nørgaard along with violinists Frederik Øland and Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen who met as children at a music summer camp. Norwegian cellist Fredrik Schøyen Sjölin later joined them in 2008.
The Danish String Quartet has curated its annual festival by the name, DSQ Festival in Nyboder, Copenhagen, since 2007. The beginning of Series of Four, which was the new concert series by the quartet in the concert hall of The Royal Danish Academy of Music, located at Copenhagen, took place in 2016.
The Danish String Quartet was taught and mentored primarily by Professor Tim Frederiksen. It also participated in masterclasses with the Tokyo and Emerson String Quartets, Hugh Maguire, Levon Chilingirian, Alasdair Tait, Paul Katz, and Gábor Takács-Nagy.
Some of the notable discographies by the band are Last Leaf (ECM 2017), Adès, Nørgård & Abrahamsen (ECM 2016), Wood Works (Dacapo 2014), Haydn, Brahms (CAvi-music 2012), Nielsen: String Quartets, Vol. 2 (Dacapo 2008), and Nielsen: String Quartets, Vol. 1 (Dacapo 2007).
The Danish String Quartet won the following career awards, such as Nielsen Prize (2011), Wilhelm Hansen Prize (2015), Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award (2016), and many more.
