Current 93 Information
Current 93 is an English experimental music ensemble working with folk-based musical styles since the early 1980s. David Tibet, who has been the only continuous member of Current 93 from its inception in 1982, established the band. The lineup of the group consists of David Tibet, Steven Stapleton, and Michael Cashmore. Tibet has been the Current 93's, sole consistent member. However, Steven Stapleton (of Nurse with Wound) has appeared on virtually every album. Current 93 have published almost a dozen albums and a slew of hits. Current 93's early work was heavily influenced by industrial music from the late 1970s and early 1980s, with harsh tape loops, droning synthesizer noises, and Tibet's distorted, excoriating vocals.
Tibet's lyrics, regardless of delivery, have been relatively consistent throughout his career: his early recordings reflect his interest in death, mysticism, Aleister Crowley, Tibetan Buddhism, Gnosticism, runes, swastikas, Noddy, The Wicker Man, and other esoteric themes. In the latter to the present-day era of Current 93's recordings, Tibet's interest in Christian mysticism and apocalypse has risen. Tibet has said that he is a Christian.
