The Crash Test Dummies is a rock band that originated from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The band was founded in 1988 when Riddell joined with Brad Roberts with the name of the group having been suggested by a friend of the band who was in medical school. The music of the band is defined as Alternative rock and folk-rock. The current lineup of The Crash Test Dummies consists of Brad Roberts – lead vocals, guitar; Ellen Reid – vocals, keyboards, accordion; Dan Roberts – bass, backing vocals; and Mitch Dorge – drums. A few of the touring members are Stuart Cameron – guitar, backing vocals; Murray Pulver – guitar, backing vocals; and three more.
The Crash Test Dummies released The Ghosts That Haunt Me as its debut album in 1991. The album brought significant success to the band and reached 400,000 sales in Canada. "Superman's Song" was a hit single included in the album, which appeared on the RPM Top Singles chart the same year. Their second album followed shortly after, God Shuffled His Fee, in 1993. Some of the other notable albums by The Crash Test Dummies are A Worm's Life, Jingle All the Way, Puss 'n' Boots, Give Yourself a Hand, I Don't Care That You Don't Mind, Songs of the Unforgiven, and Oooh La La!
The Crash Test Dummies shared that they are influenced by the band XTC and Andy Partridge. The Crash Test Dummies have won three awards to date; two Denmark GAFFA Awards and one Juno Award. The group was also nominated 16 times for other various awards.
