Corinne Jacqueline Bailey Rae (February 26, 1979) is an English singer and songwriter. She was born in Leeds, England. Her best-known song is "Put Your Records On," which she released in 2006. In an annual BBC poll of music reviewers, Sound of 2006, Bailey Rae was named the number-one expected breakthrough performer of 2006. In February 2006, she launched her debut album, Corinne Bailey Rae, and became only the fourth female British act to have her maiden album debut at number one.
Bailey Rae won two MOBO Awards and was nominated for three Grammy Awards and three Brit Awards in 2007. Her work as a featured performer in Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters earned her a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2008. After an almost three-year absence, Bailey Rae returned with her second album, The Sea, on January 26, 2010. Steve Brown and Steve Chrisanthou produced it (who produced her debut album in 2006).
She was nominated for the Mercury Prize for Album of the Year in 2010. For "Is This Love," she won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance in 2012. Bailey Rae was married to Jason Rae, a fellow artist, from 2001 until his death from a drug overdose in 2008, and she put her sadness into her music. Her first two albums have sold more than five million copies worldwide.
