Colburn Orchestra Information
Colburn Orchestra is an American flagship ensemble of the Colburn Conservatory of Music. Yehuda Gilad is the official Music Director of the ensemble. The Colburn Orchestra performs for Southern California audiences at different venues, including The Soraya, Segerstrom Concert Hall, The Broad Stage, Royce Hall, Ambassador Auditorium, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. Every two years, the Colburn Orchestra, dedicated to assisting the greater Los Angeles community, performs five concerts in one week for school children of all ages in adjacent cities.
From the beginning, Gilad and the distinguished Colburn faculty have invited outstanding guest artists to perform with the Colburn Orchestra, simulating the experience of a professional orchestra. Recent conductors include Michael Tilson Thomas, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Ludovic Morlot, Nicolas McGegan, Kurt Masur, Sir Neville Marriner, Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Placido Domingo, and James Conlon.
Colburn Orchestra made its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2018, followed by a concert in Dublin. At the Grammy Foundation's 14th Annual Music Preservation Project, One Night Only: A Celebration of the Live Music Experience, the Colburn Orchestra performed alongside Grammy Award winners, nominees, and rising stars from a range of musical genres.
