Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Information
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is an American ensemble based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Music Hall has been its principal performance venue for years now. In addition to symphonic concerts, the orchestra also performs pop performances under the name of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.
Three Cincinnati arts organizations—the Cincinnati Symphony, the Cincinnati Opera, and the Cincinnati Ballet—are resident orchestras. The Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) is a youth orchestra for music-interested children in grades nine through twelve that also receives funding from the orchestra.
From 1825 until 1872, Cincinnati was home to many orchestras. The Cincinnati Orchestra, established in 1872, was the direct forerunner of the present orchestra. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra was formally established in 1893 after being formed by Helen Herron Taft as the Cincinnati Orchestra Association.
The symphony received a donation of $85 million (USD) from Cincinnati arts supporter and benefactor Louise Nippert, who announced it at the end of 2009.
Roughly 3 million dollars annually, or roughly 75% of its distribution, was supposed to go straight to the orchestra. To keep the Cincinnati Symphony as the resident orchestra for the Cincinnati Opera and Ballet companies, 12% and 5% were allotted to those organizations, respectively.
