Chubby Carrier Information
Chubby Carrier is an American zydeco musician who was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. Carrier is best known as the leader of “Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band.” His father and grandfather used to play zydeco music, and his cousins also recorded under the name “The Carrier Brothers.” Carrier’s father, Roy Carrier Sr, taught him the accordion. At 12, Carrier started playing with his father’s band. After beginning on the accordion, he later moved to the drums.
From 1986-1989, Carrier played drums with Terrance Simien. Later on, he founded a band along with his brothers, Kevin and Troy. Carrier released his debut album entitled “Go Zedyco Go” in 1989 under Jewel Records. He kept on releasing other projects throughout his musical career. The most significant success came when his third album, entitled “Dance All Night,” was released in 1993.
Carrier has appeared on other artists’ albums with notable guest appearances, including Live: Swampland Jam (Tab Benoit), Cajun Sweet Home Louisiana (Dough Kershaw), Stop Lying in My Face (Calvin Owens), and Switching Gears (Jimmy Thackery).
Carrier has released several notable albums throughout his career, such as Boogie Woogie Zydeco (1991), Dance All Night (1993), Who Stole the Hot Sauce? (1996), Too Hot to Handle (1999), It’s Party Time (1999), Take Me to the Zydeco (2001), Ain’t No Party Like a Chubby Party (2005), Bayou Road (2006), Live at Knuckleheads, Kansas City (2007), Zydeco Junkie (2010), and Zydeco Stuff (2015).
