Chubb Rock Information
Richard Simpson (May 28, 1968) is an American rapper. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, professionally known as Chubb Rock. His first national success came with his 1988 self-titled debut Chubb Rock, discovered and produced by his first cousin DJ/Producer Howie Tee, and his 1989 follow-up And the Winner is... The latter gave birth to the mediocre hit "Ya Bad Chubbs," featured on Yo! MTV Raps at the time.
The One, his album from 1990, peaked on Billboard's Top Hip-Hop/R&B album list at 13. From the album, three songs—"Treat 'Em Right," "Just the Two of Us," and "The Chubbster"—charted at the top of Billboard's Top Rap Singles that year. I Gotta Get Mine, Yo was released the following year and featured appearances by Grand Puba Maxwell and Poke. In addition to boosting the artist's career, this release also aided the ascent to fame of the young music production crew Trackmasters, who were responsible for the album's creation.
Chubb Rock was also featured on "Back to the Grill," a song by MC Serch released in 1992. After joining the Crooklyn Dodgers in 1995, Chubb Rock performed alongside OC and Jeru the Damaja.
