Chris Duarte Information
Chris Duarte (February 16, 1963) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist from San Antonio, Texas. His music is defined as electric blues, Texas blues, and blues-rock. Duarte is well-known for playing a Texas blues-rock style that draws on elements of jazz, rock & roll, and blues. According to Duarte himself, his original music style is a mixture of “rockin’ blues” and “punk blues.” He is currently signed to Shrapnel Records but has also worked with Blues Bureau International, Aeroliner, Janblues, Provogue, Rounder, Silvertone, SRS, World Domination, and Zoë.
Chris Duarte was first inspired by music when he was only eight. He watched Fiddler On The Roof on television and started to play on his brother’s guitar. At 14, he got his Supro electric guitar. Duarte moved to Austin, Texas, in 1979 and bought a $500 1963 Fender Stratocaster guitar. Duarte states that John Coltrane is his number-one musical idol, and blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan is the second.
Texas Sugar/Strat Magik was the first album by Duarte that came out in 1994. In 1995, the album was named “Best New Talent” in Guitar Player’s Reader’s Poll. He also founded a power trio billed as the Chris Duarte Group. Apart from this band, Duarte has shared the stage with Diana Cantu, Bobby Mack, Julie Burrell, Indigenous, and Omar & the Howlers. Duarte’s other notable albums are 2000: Love Is Greater Than Me, 2003: Romp, 2010: Infinite Energy, and 2013: My Soul Alone.
