Chelsea Chen Information
Chelsea Chen (December 30, 1983) is a young American composer and organist. She is internationally renowned for his talent and success. Chen has successfully developed a concert career for herself in North America, Asia, and Europe. She has worked on several compositions. Chen has adapted music ranging from video game soundtracks to major classical repertoire to Taiwanese folk songs, especially for the organ and other instruments.
Chen began to study piano at a very young age. She was studying with Lori Bastien Vickers and Jane Smisor Bastien. At the age of fifteen, Chen began learning organ once again under some instructors such as Leslie Robb in the beginning and later with Monte Maxwell. The latter was a Chapel Organist for the United States Naval Academy. She learned the instrument for two years, and soon after that, she was accepted into the Julliard School. There she studied along with Paul Jacobs and John Weaver.
Chen has received numerous awards throughout her career. She won the Region IX regional convention of the American Guild of Organists in 2003. While studying at Julliard, she was awarded the John Erskine Prize for educational and artistic distinction.
Chen was appointed as Organist and Artist in Residence at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Throughout her career, Chen has performed both internationally and in the United States. She has performed in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, New York, Dallas, and San Diego.
